Building on the success of first international professional golf tournament in Egypt's history, which was held last season at Jolie Ville Golf & Resort Sharm El Sheikh, South Sinai Peninsula was again the focus of the golfing world from 21st to 23rd April.
On this occasion the spectacular resort owned by Hussein Salem, Chairman and CEO of HKS Group, hosted 72 players from the European Seniors tour, representing 17 countries around the world for a prize of fund for Jolie Ville Sharm El Sheikh Seniors Open of US$255,000.
The event attracted top names: England's Carl Mason, the leading money winner on the European Seniors Tour for the past two seasons, and Ireland's Denis O'Sullivan and Luis Carbonetti of Argentina, winners of the first two events of this season.
Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Seniors Tour, said: "The reputation of the hotel as a five star venue of the highest quality is impeccable, and we are delighted to have secured a venue of such stature for the Seniors Open.“
The final day's play produced some fantastic desert golf and a victory for Bob Lendzion from Las Vegas, USA who held off the challenges of South Africa's John Mashego and England's David Russell to claim the second European Seniors title of his career. The American posted a three round aggregate of 18 under par 198 and took the €29,586 first prize by a single stroke from Mashego and Russell.
It was the first visit to Egypt for the majority of the players, who were openly impressed by the overwhelming hospitality, organisation and the quality of the challenging course.
“Bob Linzion said : when I will go Back home, I will tell everybody there that we are totally wrong about Egypt and I will advise them to travel to Egypt, as its people and what you will feel there can’t be felt any were else. And the other American John Benda said “When I’m Home I will tell the people who runs Golf Courses to come to Jolie Ville Golf Course to learn from them how they manage such magnificent Golf Course and how they take care of all small details”.
